Changing to new blog, more food, more joys at http://soonph87.blogspot.com/
Literally, “otak” in Malay means brain in English. Otak-otak is a famous food from Muar, Johor. It is a mixture of fish, coconut milk, chili sambal and flavoring. I am not it comes in how many flavors, as far as I know, fish and prawn. The fish one, you can actually eat cubes of fish inside and for prawn, you can eat the whole prawn in it. A bit spicy but not too spicy. Quite nice.
You can cook the “otak-otak” in many ways. One of them is by steaming it. The other one you can found in Johor is wrapped in “atap” leaves and “BBQ-style” it.
From my housemate from Johor, he mentioned that the price for the fish otak-otak is RM5+ and the price for the prawn one is RM6+, cannot remember the exact price. The size of the otak-otak in one box is twice the one you saw on the plate.
